Meet Falun Gong at the Lunar New Year Parade

The Flushing Lunar New Year Parade, which began in 1996, is the largest Lunar New Year parade in North America. This year marks its 30th anniversary milestone. The celebration is festive and lively, with the sound of gongs and drums filling downtown Flushing, and dragons and lions dancing energetically amid continuous New Year greetings.

The Falun Dafa group participates in the parade every year, joining in this grand celebration. Their procession is magnificent and colorful, rich in traditional Chinese cultural elements, and showcases the beauty of Falun Dafa and the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance. For more than twenty years, they have extended New Year blessings to Chinese communities and people of all ethnic backgrounds. Their parade entries shine brilliantly, reflecting the vibrant spirit of traditional Chinese culture while bringing joy, harmony, and good wishes to the public.

2/21/2026 the Flushing Lunar New Year Parade

Each year in or around July, Washington, D.C., grows solemn as thousands of Falun Gong practitioners from the capital region and across the eastern United States gather on the National Mall for a candlelight vigil. Holding flickering lights, they sit side by side to mourn practitioners in China who have died since 1999 for upholding their belief in “Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance,” and they call for an immediate end to the persecution. Moving songs echo through the night, honoring those who continue to stand firm under repression by the Chinese Communist Party and remembering those who lost their lives.

Before July 20, 1999, an estimated 100 million people in China practiced Falun Gong, a Buddhist cultivation discipline centered on “Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance,” known for its health benefits and moral teachings. Then, Party leader Jiang Zemin, citing concerns over its rapid growth and popularity, initiated a nationwide campaign against the practice. Reports describe propaganda campaigns, arrests, detention, forced labor, imprisonment, torture, and allegations of forced organ harvesting. As international criticism grew, much of the persecution was carried out behind closed doors, and information was tightly censored, leaving only part of the situation visible to the outside world.‭

According to Minghui.org, from July 1999 to early July 2026, 5,238 deaths of practitioners due to persecution have been documented based on information that emerged from China, with an average age of 57. In the first half of 2025 alone, reports indicate 430 practitioners were sentenced, 76 died as a result of persecution, and 2,003 were abducted or harassed.
